Holly Hunter Enrolls in Starfleet Academy
One of the most intriguing projects in recent years has it’s new lead star! Bringing her strong background to the Star Trek Universe, Holly Hunter is the first name announced for the line up of the young adult focused series coming to Paramount+ in the near future. Known for her roles in Raising Arizona, The Piano and more, Hunter has a varied career with Oscar winning performances on film, working in drama and comedy on television and has even joined the world of animation with her leading role in Pixar The Incredibles series.
Set in the 32nd century following the adventures of the USS Discovery, Academy will focus on a new class of Starfleet Cadets – the first to join the newly reopened campus in San Francisco on Earth rather than Federation Headquarters – with Hunter announced as the chancellor of the Academy charged with guiding and building the future heroes of Starfleet.
Boasing the largest stage to date in the Star Trek universe – as well as television in general – Academy is set to begin production this summer, taking over Discovery’s old home at Pinewood Studios in Toronto.

Strange New Worlds Wraps Filming For Season 3
While one show is looking ahead to the camera’s rolling, for now it looks like the cast of Strange New Worlds are wrapping up filming of their third season! Having had a massive delay in kicking off production due to the lengthy SAG-AFTRA strike that closed down production industry-wide, the cast and crew of the Enterprise got to work to start filming in December last year.
Now, five months on, the cast are signalling they’re at the end of their third tour with Jess Bush, Anson Mount and more posting their final behind the scenes snaps from the set; mount in particular hanging up his boots for the season.
Ending on a cliffhanger that saw Pike throw duty aside to face down the Gorn and save Captain Batel, the third season has been highly anticipated though despite other shows coming to an end, Paramount confirmed earlier this year that Strange New Worlds would continue on!
Ahead of the third season launching, Strange New Worlds was announced for a fourth season – the only live action show to be continuing following the cancellation of Discovery and planned ending of Picard.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
Star Trek Honoured with Peabody Award
Since it’s formation in 1940, the Peabody Awards have become one of the highest and most prestigious honours in media. Covering television, radio and other expanding media, the Peabody’s give attention to pros that pay special mind to social issues and progression-of society as a whole. Fitting that Star Trek will, as of next month, be honoured with the Institutional Award for nearly six decades of the diverse and eclectic franchise that just keeps growing.
Known in television legend for it’s diverse cast and progressive views in 1966, the original series inspired a franchise that grew with a jump to the big screen and spins offs starting with 1987’s The Next Generation. Right through to now, the show has evolved with it’s inclusive cast both in front of camera and behind the scenes. Even it’s darkest themes have been layered in hope and learning tor the betterment of humanity.
It’s not Star Trek’s first Peabody. The Big Goodbye, a 1987 Next Generation episode, won the Childrens and Youth Award while Discovery was nominated for the same in 2018. However this is one of the greatest honours within the organisation and it;s well overdue for a franchise that’s been heralded and made a culture out of it’s message.
Hosted by Kumail Nanjiani, the 2024 Peabody Awards will be held on June 9th at th eBeverly Wilshite Hotel in Los Angeles.
