As we look over the months news and updates for the Star Trek Universe, there’s only one topic that’s on everyone’s minds as the Star Trek Universe gets itself rteady for a return to the Enterprise and it’s adventures to Strange New Worlds…

Between writers strikes and production closures, the wait for Strange New Worlds’ third season has felt as long as the five year mission itself. But the Enterprise is soon returning and we have a small idea of when Captain Pike and the crew will be back on Paramount Plus!

The Tribeca Film Festival, running from June 4-15th, has announced that Strange New Worlds will become part of the line up with the premiere of season 3 being held at the festival in New York. Alongside a panel featuring Anson Mount, Celia Rose Gooding and more including producer Alex Kurtzman, fans in the area (or willing to travel a long, long way!) can get a sneak peek with tickers going on sale to the general public on April 29th.

After building up the threat of the Gorn Hegemony, Season 2 ended with a tense cliffhanger as the Enterprise crew found itself ignoring orders to stage a rescue attempt on the edge of Gorn claimed territory. Stranded on the planet, Captain Batel used the skills of another survivor Montgomery Scott to hide her crew and the colonists from the Gorn, but while some were able to escape, La’an, M’Benga and more were captured by the Gorn.

As the season ended, Pike returned to the Enterprise with orders to disengage, leaving him stuck between following orders and not escalating the conflict or finding a way to sav his crew from the Gorn. A sneak peek from New York Comic Con showed that the story will continue with the conclusion of the two part story.

STRANGE NEW CAST

Alongside the returning cast for season Martin Quinn will be returning for a more regular role as Montgomery ‘Scotty’ Scott. Introduced as the sole survivor of the USS Stardiver, Scott crash landed alongside the crew of the Cayuga and helped hide the planets population from the Gorn. Shown as a young Lieutenant, Strange New Worlds will have Scotty welcomed to the Enterprise – the ship he’ll eventually lead as Chief Engineer – with the teaser trailer showing a brief scene between Scott and Paul Wesley’s James Kirk.

Wesley will also have a chance to expand on his younger version of the confident Captain in waiting with the trailer showing him mixing more with the regular cast. Despite being introduced in season one, we didn’t see ‘Prime’ Kirk until mid season two giving Season 3 some time to explore more about his time before becoming Captain through guest appearance’s.

Another intriguing addition is Cillian O’Sullivan who will be taking on another legacy character in Roger Kirby. First appearing in original series episode What Are Little Girls Made Of?, Korby was a scientist who’d been stranded for five years by the time the Enterprise was sent to check on him. It all ended badly, as it always does, with Korby going a bit mental and having become the overlord of his own little android empire, starting with replicating himself as an android, which unravels by the time the mission is over.

The episode also showed that Chapel and Korby were once to be married before his disappearance which, in Strange New Worlds timeline, is just two or three years away from happening. So bringing Korby into the mix or Chapel, Spock and T’Pring is another layer of messy for the crew to deal with!

More new guest cast are expected with the episodic format including Rhys Darby, who appeared in the trailer with a Trelane-like appearance, and Patton Oswald adding another credit to his collection of geeky roles!

WHEN IS IT?!

Officially the launch for Paramount Plus is still to be confirmed with a general ‘Summer’ release window. But with how hard it’ll be to hold down all the secrets for the return, we can likely expect the series to make it’s return soon after the June 15th premiere date.

Using some good old Vulcan logic, the best estimate right now would see the season premiere his streaming services by the end of June of not early July.

While we await official confirmation, the good news is that we won’t have as long a wait for season 4 as we have season 3! Behind the scenes Star Trek production was effected by industrial actions within the creative sector of the film industry which mainly saw writers fight for better pay and conditions. With the strikes settled ahead of season 4, production for the fourth instalment is well underway with the cast currently filming in Toronto.

Season 5 is also confirmed for the prequel show with Starfleet Academy due to accompany the live action drama next year.

Strange New Worlds will make it’s highly anticipated return this Summer exclusively on Paramount Plus.

[Retro Review] Scorpion; Voyager S3E26 & S4E01

There's not a Star Trek show that hasn't been put on a pedestal or picked as the definitive of the franchise for it's overall perfection. Though in reality, few few have been great from the word go. From the shaky grounds of the Next Generation's early years to awaiting Sisko finding his beard, most branches of the Star Trek tree have felt like an experiment until they find that one piece of the puzzle that was missing. For Voyager, that piece of the puzzle was Scorpion. Fresh off their reinvention in First Contact, the Borg are still known as one of the Federations biggest threats; a near unstoppable hive mind void of compassion or emotion as they adsorb entire cultures into their shared collective; a deadly cybernetic virus wiping out individuality to serve their single minded purpose of expansion. As […]

[Ships Of The Line] The NEw Orleans

One of the first multi purpose vessels built for the mid 24th century refresh of Starfleet, the New Orleans was the most adaptable model within the larger Galaxy family of starship design. With a trio of mission specific sensor pods, the ship was perfect for short term research missions as a primary objective whilst being able to swap out the pods for more specific purposes or even as defensive units. Smaller than the 'heads of the table' Galaxy and Nebula classes, the New Orleans was the more traditional design in the mid-scale models similar to the Cheyenne and Springfield Classes. Hosting a crew averaging 500, the ship was tightly packed with mixed crew quarters and multi-purpose research facilities to accommodate for the far-ranging tasks it would be assigned to, whether it was planetary defence or survey operations. With modernised nacelles […]

Tour The Galaxy with the USS Tesla!

Every quarter we'll be putting a division of Quadrant 2 under the spotlight as we Tour The Galaxy with the best and brightest of the fleet. And to start off on a high, we thought we'd begin with one of our fastest developing groups in the past decade; the USS Tesla! The first unit to launch following our mass fleet reorganisation a decade ago, the USS Tesla was first proposed as an idea in passing conversation and soon blossomed into one of the leading groups in both Q2 and in Scotland. Coming in with established roots in the sci fi community, founding members of Tesla were already well known in fan circles thanks to their association and membership with the UK Colonial Marines and diverse involvement at events in Scotland and beyond. Spearheaded by Fraser who stands as CO of […]

[Ships Of The Line] The Nova (& Rhode Island) Class

One of the more popular starship designs to come out of the mid-late 24th century, the Nova and it's sub class the Rhode Island, had an unusual history. Initially drafted as one of many designs conceptualised following early encounters with the Borg, it's origins lay in defensive planning before it was finalised for a more scientific role in favour of other defensive options for the fleet. Designed for combat initially, the Nova Class was one of many styles designed to be small, compact and manoeuvrable that could be built up in large numbers to bolster the fleeds defence in times of crisis. Like many starship designs proposed at the time, the ship's concept would be abandoned in favour of the Defiant Class project until a new idea was needed elsewhere. Revived by Starfleet for short term planetary research, the Nova […]

And to the passionate fans who’ve boldly joined us on this journey.” Some time and a couple of Hollywood strikes ago, SNW's third and fourth […]

Across The Universe: Khan’t Get Enough New Trek News in February 2025

Another month, another round up of Star Trek news as two very different productions wrap up with their cast to prepare for launch, and we get more new toys to play with! KHAN'T GET ENOUGH With little said about the project since it's announcement tin 2022, the Khan audio drama has made some noise as they announced production had wrapped! Originally pitched as a miniseries by Wrath of Khan director Nicholas Meyer during the early days of Discovery's Trek revival, the Ceti Alpha Five script was shelved as part of Meyer's quiiet departure and revived not too long ago. Keeping things relatively quiet since casting calls were announced a year later, it seems we'll see (or hear!) the story finally come to all major streaming platforms later this year. Joined by writers Kirsten Beyer and David Mack, Meyers story focuses […]

Across The Universe! Black Ops Missions & Lifetime Achievements!

The year begins with a New Trek bringing us to even strange new worlds while franchise - both old and new - celebrate upcoming awards ceremonies. Section 31 Released... After a long, long wait the potentially least anticipated project in the Star Trek Universe was released on January 25th as Section 31, starring Michelle Yeoh reprising her role as reformed (kinda) Emperor Georgiou displaced in time and recruited to rejoin Section 31 for a dangerous mission to protect the Federation in the most non Federation way possible. Initially developed as a full series exploring the nature of the organisation's questionable origins and motives, the project was placed in the hands of new writers to transform the concept into a made for streaming movie as a condensed action piece that limited the original intention and replaced it with something a little […]
