Announced and confirmed by StarTrek.com, Discovery’s ranks continue to swell after Sonqua Martin-Green was officially confirmed as Lt Commander Burnham and the shock revelation that The OFfice’s Rainn Wilson would revive the role of Harry Mudd!
Known for her role as the devious and deceitful Tory Foster in Battlestar Galactica, Rekha Sharma is giving up colonial life for Starfleet as she boards the Discovery as Commander Landry, it’s new security officer! Sharma has also made appearances in sci fi drama The 100, the reboot of V and many more including Arrow, Smallville and Supernatural!
Joining Sharma in her Starfleet career is Shazad Latif. If that name sounds familiar, Latif was previously announced to take on the role of Kol, however it seems things have changed as Latif is now billed as a young Starfleet Officer, Lieutenant Tyler.
So where does that leave Kol, the commander of the Klingon ship?
It seems now Kol has been recast with Kenneth Mitchell in the role. Mitchell has had a hectic few years as Joe Hurley on Frequency, Deke Slayton on The Astronaut Wives Club and several guest appearance in popular shows including Haven, NCIS and more with his most recognised role being Eric Green in Jericho.
Joining Mitchell in the Klingon side of Discovery is Damon Runyan who has appeared in television shows including Suits, Supernatural, Haven, DeGrassi The Next Generation and more recently as Charles Falco in Gangland Undercover. Runyan will portray one of the leaders of the Klingon Empire, Ujilli.
Runyan’s not the only one who gets to play in the Klingon high Council as Clare McConnell, a Toronto based actor known in the area for her sketches and improv. McConnell’s relatively new to the small screen with her first feature, Dim the Fluorescents, due for release this fall.
With more cast on board as filming continues in Canada, Star Trek Discovery is expected to release later this year. Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green as Lt Commander Michael Burnham, the first lead star not ranked as captain of the ship! Discovery also stars Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Jason Isaacs, Chris Obi, Michelle Yeoh and many more, Discovery is set to launch on Netflix in the UK later this year and several involved in production have teased that we’ll have more information very soon with San Diego Comic Con announcements pending.
