Prodigy’s Second Season Arrives July 1st On Netflix

Since the announcement that Prodigy would be moving to Netflix following the cancellation of the animated series by Paramount+, it looks like we finally have a release date for Dal and the crews next mission!

Created by the Hageman brothers in partnership with Nickelodeon, Prodigy’s first season followed misfit incarcerated teens as they discovered a lost Starship underneath their prison and used it to escape. Throughout the series the rogue group became a crew as they learned about the Starfleet ways from a holographic training program modelled on Kathryn Janeway, while running from the Diviner towards Federation space for sanctuary. Based on the idea of creating an introductory series for younger fans, Prodigy was quick to become a favourite for it’s slow burning story telling and animation style before Paramount’s reshuffling in recent years heading towards a sale of the media giant resulted in some unfortunate cuts.

At the time Prodigy’s second season was already mostly complete and teasers had shown some interesting hints at the next chapter. Released in two parts, the first season closed with Dal and the crew on Earth following the destruction of the USS Protostar and ready for their next adventure. Now under the guidance of the real Admiral Janeway, with the knowledge that the ships captain Chakotay was trapped in the future, the second season looks to be a bit of a Voyager reunion with the mission to retrieve Chakotay combined with new cameo’s including Voyager’s former EMH.

If that wasn’t good enough, the Protostar needed a replacement and thanks to the teaser, we’ll also be introduced to the USS Voyager-A following the original ship becoming a museum in Lower Decks’ era.

And that new chapter is coming very, very soon. Netflix has announced that Prodigy Season 2 will release in it’s entirety on July 1st for a chunk of European markets via both Netflix and in partnership with SkyShowtime.

Until then, Prodigy’s first season is available on Netflix now to catch up or rewatch!
