As part of some tweaks to fleet structure heading into 2025, our first two new Fleet Support positions have been filled just after celebrating SFC’s 50th anniversary. The expansion of Fleet Support allows for more ideas and voices to enter the general operations of Quadrant 2 whilst opening more opportunities for advancement and contributing to the fleet overall.

In an effort to refine our structure and operations, the new Fleet Support layout is designed with two ideas in mind. One is to help support both members and the admiralty by extending administrative command roles and open up more opportunities for members of Q2, the other is to ensure we bring a wider range of voices and opinions in how we look towards the next steps in our evolution as we move past our first fifty years of operations.

Following our initial recruitment announcement within the Fleet Hub back in September, we’ve carefully considered who we felt would bring the most to the extended Admin Team we’d like to put together and have our first new members of Fleet Support as part of the Administrative Branch of Q2.

Internal Relations Officer, Capt. Piers Drinkall
One of the key support roles developed for 2024, Internal Relations is a combination of former fleet roles including some duties held by the dissolved JAG officer position. Overseeing any conflict resolution and handling reports on any issues or disputes either within the fleet or from recording any on the ground incidents, the IR role is one that comes with high responsibility, trust and the ability to handle issues with dignity and care.

Having brought structure and new ideas in his tenure as Sovereign’s CO, Piers has always shown a balanced and fair view in leadership. Building on his real-life experience and career progression, he has become one of the most consistent and creative people within Q2 when it comes to operational performance, not just as a unit leader, but in his ability to offer support to the board. In a role that requires someone who can act far and just with natural ease and an understanding nature, we’re delighted to say Piers was the perfect person to become the first Internal Relations Officer for Q2.

EDI (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion) Officer, Cmdr John Bond
A new role developed for Quadrant 2, the EDI officers role is to ensure all aspects and divisions live up to the values held within the IDIC philosophy. The EDI officer would ensure best practice and support to ensure our club remains an inclusive place for all and act as a trusted representative of the fleet.

Many within the club, as well as the wider fan circles, have met John. Even if they didn’t know it at the time! A regular crew member for one of the UK’s largest convention promoters, John has honed his skills over the years through his dedication to his work and studies focusing on not only bettering himself, but the lives of others. With people as his passion, and a strong advocate of visibility, there’s no one better to become the inaugural EDI officer for Quadrant 2!

Congratulations John & Piers! We are thrilled to have such a strong start to the new Fleet Support team and proud to have two of our most prominent and supportive members on board!

We’ll have more positions and roles available ahead of 2025 where we’ll officially confirm the new Fleet Support team as part of the Administrative Branch. All roles are dual positions allowing members to remain as an active part of their unit alongside their Fleet Suport roles. The next positions will be released throughout November. Further information is available in the Membership Hub Database under Officers Pack.

What If… Spock Never Returned?

Over the years the Star Trek Universe has shown one part of it's original cast to be thee glue that holds it all together. From tempering Kirks emotions in the original series, to becoming a key asset in Starfleet's mission for peace decades later, Spock has been intertwined into several key points in galactic history. His appearance in The Next Generation led to a cultural shift over time that saw Romans and Vulcan's living as one nation. His disappearance during the Romulan Supernova led to the creation of the Kelvin Timeline. Even his strained relationships with his half brother and foster sister would have huge ramifications that would have an undeniable butterfly effect throughout time. But in essence, Spock's existence throughout most of his achievements shouldn't have happened. During Kirk's final showdown with Khan, Spock sacrificed himself to save the […]

Kelvin Timeline Producer Robert Orci Passes Away Ages 51

A follower of the Enterprise and it's adventures from a young age, Roberto Orci was introduced to Star Trek by his uncle and would grow up to introduce a short lived, but highly memorable, Captain Robau in thanks and tribute to the uncle that started the journey into sci fi and fantasy. Sovereign, Churchill & The Regional Command Unit

Compared to when SFC began fifty years ago, a lot has changed. Even since Quadrant 2 made the decision to operate independently of our Q1 counterparts there have been a lot of social changes that we've always worked to adapt to and keep ahead of with new ideas and innovations. The biggest change from then and now is undoubtedly the growth of the internet as an accessible medium. Whether good or bad, the internet has brought people from all corners of the world together to share in their passions, ideas and complain about films. For Q2, it's become a vital part of the fabric of the club where you can log in to the membership portal, play co-0p games with our favourite starships, or look at pictures from Tesla's latest away mission on bluesky. But when it came to being […]

[Retro Review] Lost In Space: The Caretaker. Voyager S1E1.

These days we're a bit spoiled as Star Trek fans. In less than ten years we've had three live action series, two animated shows and there's more on the way. And we have the internet so naturally we'll see everyone complain about it before there's even a trailer. In the mid-90's, things were a little more exciting. The hurdle of Next Gen replacing the original – now fully retired - crew was out the way. DS9 had taken a risk away from the Enterprise and now it was time for a new ship to carry the idea of boldly going forward. In comparison to the giant Enterprise flying the flag of the Federation, Voyager was a more average low key type of deal with a a bit of a makeshift crew that would have everything from a rookie to a […]

New Year, New Site!

After months of planning and a few mentions here and there, we're as surprised as anyone that after planning a newly refreshed site for 2025, we made it in time without anything going wrong! Reviewing 2024 we've been plotting, planning and organising in the background ahead of a huge push for 2025 to revive some administrative energy and while a new site may seem like it's last on (very long) a list of priories, a new look to match the energy we wanted to go into 2025 with was a big task to get the ball running.   On the front end, we've kept things roughly the same with only a few minor tweaks. Posts will still be split between two main sections. On Screen will be host to ongoing production news reviews, including the ongoing Retro Review feature and […]
