There’s drama and mystery ahead in the live action Star Trek world with scary space phenomenon and alternate reality skipping to take us through an adventure and keep us on the edge of our seats. Before then, however, our next dose of the Star Trek world has kicked off with something a little lighter as we rejoin the Lower Decks of the Cerritos!
When Lower Decks originally launched, we were all in dismay due to the US release schedule being messed up by COVID, meaning Lower Decks launched ahead of Discovery and months ahead of schedule. This meant we had to wait for a UK distributor to be secured. Now however? LEss than 24 hoursa after Season 2’s launch in the US, the Lower Decks crew are back on Amazon Prime Video so we can all watch worldwide!
After a dramatic mission that saw Boimler leave to serve with Captain Riker on the USS Titan; Tendi helping Rutherford after he lost his memory by having his implants ripped off and Mariner finally form a working relationship with her mother where they could get a fresh start, it looks like things were about to change for the team. But according to teasers released in the lead up to Season 2’s release, it won’t be long until we’re back to the zany quartet’s usual shenanigans.
Season two kicks off with “Strange Energies”, picking up three months after Boimler left for the Titan, the Cerritos encounters some trouble when Commander Ransom accidentally absorbs some, well, strange energy…

Voyagers mission was to find a way home. And Harry Kim found one. Using found slipstream technology as well as time sensitive components to make it work, Kim proposes a risky plan to build the drive and race the crew home. When his space bestie Tom points out it's a stupid plan due to variables they haven't been able to counter, Captain Janeway give sit the rubber stamp anyway on the condition Chakotay fly ahead in the Delta Flyer with Kim so they can feed back course corrections so Voyager doesn't explode. [Ships of the Line] The Einstein Class / Kelvin Type
A relic of one of Starfleet's lost experimental era's, the Einstein Class was in service into the 2230's as a replacement for the Daedalus explorers. Going back to a more traditional saucer for the ships primary hull, a core feature of Starfleet's first exploration vessels, the NX Class, it was a larger and chunkier configuration to allow more internal for an adaptable range of mission specifications. Similar to standard scout ship designs, such as the USS Archer, the Einstein featured a singular warp nacelle protruding below the wide saucer housing two semi circular dual warp coils powered by four reactors allowing the vessel to reach warp 7 speeds with it's base early 23rd century configuration. Alerted to the universe destroying rift that's been isolated to their timeline, Boimler and Mariner lead the charge in convincing Captain Freeman of the threat. To their surprise, there's no argument from her as she trusts her 'best officers' and informs command who then deliver the bad news. There's no other ship in range. It's time for Cerritos to step out of their comfort zone and save the galaxy.
Fissure Quest: Lower Decks S5E09 Review
Side stepping the Lower Deckers for the episode, Fissure Quest instead focuses on Boimlers not-so-dead-transporter duplicate William. Following faking his death in season three, Billy Boims is now captain of Section 31 ship the Anaximander. While Cerritos has been sent to close the subspace fissures expoising them to alternate realities, the Anaximander has been sent into that multiverse to find out who's causing them.
Upper Decks: Lower Decks S5E08 Review
This is an odd episode that see's a lot going on, but also feels like nothing of note really happens. It's basically a day in the life of the command crew that makes the job seem more chaotic than the low level tasks of the Lower Deckers while making fun of the idea that only the important command crew have all the fun.

Looking ahead to the next generation of Star Trek shows, Paramount and Secret Hideout have already began announcing new cast members to lead the Starfleet Academy series coming to the streaming platform in the near future. News of the show has already turned heads with notes that the new academy campus will be the largest seen on TV so far, being filmed in Pinewood';s largest stage in Canada, though in terms of what to fully expect from the young adult drama, things are largely being kept under Red Directive secrecy.
