Following a landmark year and a new drive to refresh fleet services starting with the website revamp to close the year, we’re in constant review mode to make sure that our systems and services are working for everyone within Q2. Despite January seemingly lasting three times as long as normal this year, we’ve already had a great start with Tesla and Proxima heading into their first away missions of the year, and new opportunities arsing from a temporary change of command on the Churchill and two new members on board the new Fleet Support Group. So we want to make sure that with a great start to the year, we keep that momentum going!
The past few years have been difficult from lockdowns to social changes and other things we wont get into! At times we’ve all felt a little disconnected and a little worn out. Changes in social media needs and habits, as well as an ever divisive and negative online landscape can be draining and trail off the excitement and energy we once embraced. Going forward, we want to make sure our output continues to be positive, accessible and most of all fun.
Ok, so surveys aren’t fun. But we’d like to make sure we’re doing our all for fleet engagement, ensuring our accessibility and output remains relevant to you without leaning to heavy on often unreliable metrics. And so, our first Admirals Blog of the year gives you the stage to let us hear your feedback, your view and keep us on track for the next adventures…

[Ships Of The Line] The Nova (& Rhode Island) Class
One of the more popular starship designs to come out of the mid-late 24th century, the Nova and it's sub class the Rhode Island, had an unusual history. Initially drafted as one of many designs conceptualised following early encounters with the Borg, it's origins lay in defensive planning before it was finalised for a more scientific role in favour of other defensive options for the fleet. Designed for combat initially, the Nova Class was one of many styles designed to be small, compact and manoeuvrable that could be built up in large numbers to bolster the fleeds defence in times of crisis. Like many starship designs proposed at the time, the ship's concept would be abandoned in favour of the Defiant Class project until a new idea was needed elsewhere. Revived by Starfleet for short term planetary research, the Nova […]

[Inside Trek] Andrew Probert
Building the look of the Star Trek Universe isn't easy. Following a template made by Mat Jeffries, every artist who joins the universe builds on that original work. For one artist, his mission wasn't just to build on what came before, but completely reinvent it all with a new vision that would end up becoming one of the most iconic pieces of Star Trek; The Enterprise-D bridge. A graduate of Pasadena's Art Centre College of Design, Andrew Probert's screen career began with science fiction. On the recommendation of fellow artist Ralph McQuarrie, Probert would join the team behind the original Battlestar Galactica series, adding his mark to the universe with the Cylon Centurion design which would represent the Cylons and be revisited as an older model in the Ron Moore driven reboot. Entering the Star Trek Universe in 1978, Probert […]

Strange New Worlds: Season 3 Trailer
Warping to our screens this year, the Enterprise crew are back in action for season 3 with new stories, new adventures and some very old tech! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjAWSIJCcmY The shows second season left us on a cliffhanger as Pike and his team raced to save Captain Batel from the middle of a Gorn invasion and will pick up from the crew being split in a tense face off with the Hegemony... In Season 3, when we reconnect with the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, still under the command of Captain Pike, they face the conclusion of season two’s harrowing encounter with the Gorn. But new life and civilizations await, including a villain that will test our characters’ grit and resolve. An exciting twist on classic Star Trek, Season 3 takes characters both new and beloved to new heights, and dives into […]

USS Kaga Ready For Launch!
Boldly going even farther in 2025, we are pleased to announce a new addition to our fleet as we welcome the USS Kaga; a unique ship with a bold mission to explore and enhance their community in an exciting revival of one of SFC's most valued regions! Serving as a hub to bring together Star Trek fans in Japan, the Kaga's Captain and crew are set to launch in Ishikawa Prefecture with a passion to share Starfleet values with an already strong base before becoming a part of SFC. With their continuing mission embracing a wider fandom in the science fiction and horror genres, inviting more to join the crew in discussion and gaming groups. Fleet Focus: Location, Location, Location…
Starfleet on screen has always been focused on the visual of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge with locations on each end being used. While various buildings have been added tot he mix including the Tillman Water Reclimnation Centre for it's sci fi appearance, or th eGetty Centre for a more traditional aesthetic, the bridge has always made for a great and recognisable visual for the franchise. There's other reasons, aside from the image, of course. San Fransisco was chosen as thats where the UN Charter was signed, which created a nice link to a unified fleet in the future. The main location for Starfleet Headquarters, which was very nicely refined for Star Trek Picard, is Horsehoe Bay, home of Fort Baker which had been a key port for the United Stated Navy since the early 20th century and now hosts […]

[Admirals Blog] ACME, Tesla & The Great Outdoors….
It's not exactly a secret that since lockdown, there's been a bit of a disconnect for a lot of people. Myself included. It's safe to say between lockdown keeping me tied to a desk job, moving into the middle of nowhere and generally finding a billion and one things to do for Q2, I'd become a bit of a shut in. But after what feels like years of promising to get back outside and rejoin the fun on the ground, Tesla's team convinced me to take a day off and head out on an away mission!

[Admirals Log] Sixty Years & New Frontiers
It's safe to say that the Star Trek Universe has been in a constant state of evolution lately. From the weekend announcements and showcases form SDCC (more on that later this week) to massive shifts in recent years that's saw more than a few new creative directions taken, change has always been key to a long and healthy franchise. As a ridiculously weak transition from that to the Admirals Update, change is just as important for us. Since joining Q2 I've beeen fascinated by the fleet being one of constant evolution and now I'm quite keen to see more change coming as we celebrate a landmark year for us all.

[Admirals Blog] Busting Makes Me Feel Good…
I thought I was l being clever with the launch of Q2&A this month. Until I realised the three posts I'd written up mean that in the quarterly blog, unless I wasn't to go into statistics of the year so far and indulge in some rather dull pie charts and graphs. Which would send half the fleet into a state of deep, deep sleep. So I've decided to do something I've been putting off for a long, long time and document a pet project that started off as a one off purchase, and turned into years of tinkeri1ng and learning. And it all started with finding a Ghostbusters Neutrona Wand on Amazon...

[Admirals Log] “Change is the essential process of all existence.”
Since relinquishing the Comms role to focus on Admin, following the Fleet Confirmation we'd spent some time taking stock of things we'd like to change and refine to ensure all members get the most out of being part of Quadrant 2. I know membership is free, but we'd still like to make sure you feel like you're getting value for your latinum and get the most out of being part of Q2. We'll be doing some surveys through the coming months to help isolate where we could further improve, but based on feedback we've received we're implementing more and more things for members throughout 2024. One of the most obvious looking over the site is a push to ensure we're updating regularly; both in moving features that used to be part of Comms into regular site updates and keeping up […]

[Admirals Log] So, you wanna be a Starship Captain?
Every Star Trek fans dreams of being the captain of their own Starship and while we don't have any actual starships to hand out, Q2's structure is based around the concept of captains leading groups of fans through social activities, fun and general shenanigans! One of the most commonly asked questions in Q2 the board gets is simply how to start a new unit. In the past we've had units all across Europe with several running at a time before we converged the fleet into two large units as part of a massive restructuring project some years ago. At present those two larger units – Sovereign and Churchill – act as a large base covering a lot of ground which means a lot of the action is all online. Our localised units build more offline-based social structures and offer activities […]
