Boldly going even farther in 2025, we are pleased to announce a new addition to our fleet as we welcome the USS Kaga; a unique ship with a bold mission to explore and enhance their community in an exciting revival of one of SFC’s most valued regions!

Serving as a hub to bring together Star Trek fans in Japan, the Kaga’s Captain and crew are set to launch in Ishikawa Prefecture with a passion to share Starfleet values with an already strong base before becoming a part of SFC. With their continuing mission embracing a wider fandom in the science fiction and horror genres, inviting more to join the crew in discussion and gaming groups.

Themed around the concept of exploration, Kaga’s goals expand beyond the fandom, embracing Starfleet ideals with an emphasis on charitable endeavours, community outreach and environmental endeavours. Spreading positivity through fandom, Kaga’s activities will focus on service to the local community, including support for initiatives such as Kanazawa Rainbow Pride Week, volunteering with Koke-no-Sato moss gardens in Komatsu, and participating in the Charity Miles program to promote fitness and philanthropy.

Aiming to create an inclusive environment that welcomes all who share an interest in Star Trek and the pursuit of community-driven missions, Kaga’s command crew is led by captain Matthew Ross and first officer Misae Okayama who, together with their team, bring an exciting new adventure to Star Trek and sci fi fans!

Kaga comes on board with an incredible team and a clear goal for their future. With a solid base and an already impressive crew ready before launch, we are incredibly excited to see their adventures unfold on a continuing mission to expand SFC and take the lead with both passion and drive for both their ship and community.

To Matthew and the founding crew, from all of us at the Admiralty Board and SFCQ2, we wish you safe voyage as the USS Kaga begins it’s shakedown cruise. We all look forward to everything to come on the incredible journey!

Congratulations to all, and Godspeed!

Who is The Doctor?

Returning to Star Trek for a second time, Robert Picardo is set to make yet another appearance as part of the new cast of Starfleet Academy as he revives 'The Doctor' hundreds of years after first materialising on screen in Voyager's pilot episode. So, who is The Doctor...? Conceptualised in the mid-24th century, the Emergency Medical Holographic Program was proposed to take action in the event of a crisis to supplement or replace the medical staff on a short term basis. The idea was simple. Whether in the heat of battle or during humanitarian aid, anything could overwhelm the medical team and that cost of life, any life, was too much to bear. With the advancement of holographic technology, the plan was to create a program that could be drafted in when required to save the day. Leading Starfleet Engineer […]

[Ships of the Line] The Pathfinder

Building upon the discoveries and experiences of Voyager's unplanned trip through the Delta Quadrant, the Pathfinder class is the first line of starships designed specifically for the Delta Quadrant. Less a replacement for the Intrepid and more of a specialised offshoot, the Pathfinder was conceived for a return to the Delta Quadrant with a ship and crew prepared for what to expect. [Image Note: Pathfinder Class model by Thomas Marrone. Screencap taken in Star Trek Online with Sovereign Refit Livery.] After being stranded in the Delta Quadrant, the USS Voyager returned to Earth in 2378 with a little intervention from their future selves, Borg transwarp conduits and enough technology from the future that would drive Temporal Investigations to insanity. Between the new technologies brought in by Admiral Janeway to the discoveries and modifications applied to the ship throughout it's isolated […]

A Fistful of Sci Fi

Over the past few years we've been spoiled with a dazzling amount of Star Trek on our screens, but with shows coming to an end, the close of Season 3 of Strange New Worlds leaves us impatiently waiting for more! With a bit of time to go until we see season four, and the next live action show Starfleet Academy coming next year, we need some geeky joys to fill the gap! Taking a look around at recent sci fi releases, we've picked the top five from the year to keep us engaged before our return to the Star Trek Universe in 2026. Murderbot Based on the series of books by Martha Wells, Murderbot is stars Alexander Skarsgård as a refurbished security unit who's hacked his safety protocols to gain free will and horrible at hiding that fact. What If…. the Romulans Learned The Truth?

Armed to the teeth with the ability to replenish ships, troops and supplies at rapid speed, the Dominion were a force to be reckoned with who were systematically crushing their opposition. The Jem'Hadar were taking their fair share of losses, but any soldier lost could be replaced by another batch of clones and with a huge amount of planets in servitude to the Dominion combined with a sharp focus of genetically engineered talents, there were always spare resources to replenish and push back. It was a dire situation for the Federation. Waves of fleets would be lost in battle, boots on the ground were struggling to hold the line and even with the Klingons vast resources and more battle-ready way of life, it just wasn't enough to push back hard enough against the invading Dominion. Not until another large nation […]

[Ships of the Line] The Ambassador Class

A stepping stone between two pivotal design era's, the Ambassador Class was introduced by the 2320's as a replacement for the Excelsior and Constellation lines before being itself replaced with the larger and more adaptable Galaxy Class. Constructed during a time of cautious optimism in the decades following the original Khitomer conference and relative silence from the Romulan Empire. Strong and sturdy in it's nature, the Ambassador line were installed as a key front line heavy cruiser as a deterrent against enemies of the Federation to take advantage of the relative peace of the early 24th century. Traditional in it's layout, the design process was more drawn out than most and included several variations in style and layout before a more solid and simple base was produced for the final model which included a traditional secondary hull linking back to […]

[Ships Of The Line] The Nova (& Rhode Island) Class

One of the more popular starship designs to come out of the mid-late 24th century, the Nova and it's sub class the Rhode Island, had an unusual history. Initially drafted as one of many designs conceptualised following early encounters with the Borg, it's origins lay in defensive planning before it was finalised for a more scientific role in favour of other defensive options for the fleet. Designed for combat initially, the Nova Class was one of many styles designed to be small, compact and manoeuvrable that could be built up in large numbers to bolster the fleeds defence in times of crisis. Like many starship designs proposed at the time, the ship's concept would be abandoned in favour of the Defiant Class project until a new idea was needed elsewhere. Revived by Starfleet for short term planetary research, the Nova […]
