Akiva Goldsman has a long history with Star Trek. First as a young kid growing up in the 70's watching original series re-runs, to asking friend JJ Abrahms for cameo's in the two Trek movies he directed, to now being a creative force within the franchise itself. Now merging his fandom with his work, he's taking Star Trek back to it's past as Strange New Worlds revisits his childhood on board the original USS Enterprise.
During it's premiere season, Star Trek Picard dipped a toe into the titular characters past as we caught up with the disconnected Borg Hugh and dropped in on former Captain Riker and his wife, Deanna Troi in a sries that ended with saying a final farewell to what was left of Data. For Season 2, we'll have another familiar face from the Next Generation join the adventure, though maybe not one Picard would be eager to meet again...
One of the Trek projects in production that we know the least about is the upcoming Nickelodeon show, Star Trek Prodigy. Having already announced that Kate Mulgrew will reprise her role as Captain Janeway, and showing off character artwork for the core team; the one thing everyone wanted to know was how the Captain fit into the world Prodigy was set in.
After a long, long wait, we finally got our first (proper) look at Mike McMahon's Lower Decks when it arrived on Amazon Prime Video internationally. The comedy series focusing on the minor crew members of the USS Cerritos ended with the group of friends broke apart, with Boimler being promoted and reassigned to the USS Titan.
Warping into the future, Discovery has taken us far away from what we know about the Star Trek Universe and found strange new worlds in once familiar territory. Following a season of rebuilding the show as we re-discover the galaxy, we’re taking the deepest of dives into Discovery’s third season including full episode reviews; special features focusing on the new crew and new technologies plus a point by point overall season breakdown!
