A Fistful Of Unnoficial Ships Made Canon

Since the debut of the USS Enterprise in 1966, Matt Jeffries design became the template that every designer has helped to expand upon since, giving Star Trek it's own unique and easily identifiable style linking everything from the Enterprise-D to Discover for decades. Since then several designers have been hired to bring new iconic ships to Star Trek, including Andrew Probert, Rick Sternbach and Kelvin Timeline designer Ryan Church. However, while most ships were built in house for their productions, not every ship we've seen on screen began it's life in a production office nor in any official capacity.

Even before Strange New Worlds introduced it's new crew, the return of Captain Pike and his Number One in Discovery's second season had already given a new lease of life to the abandoned original crew of the Starship Enterprise. Now leading their own show and diving into two characters who'd barely had a chance to shine, the show has taken the opportunity to dive further into both underdeveloped characters and unexplored background of the original Star Trek era.

Star Trek Picard's final episode gave birth to a new generation of Starfleet. Despite being a final goodbye to the Next Generation Crew, season 3 showrunner Terry Matalas had also planned to tell the story of the birth of the Enterprise-G, it's captain and her crew. But in doing so the series explored some major moments and themes from the wider TNG era, both revisiting and expanding on Star Trek lore. Since the closing moments of the series, in particular the launch of the Enterprise G led by a pirate, a spy and a thief, the finale gave rise to a massive fan campaign to continue the story with Captain Seven of Nine heading up Matalas' Star Trek Legacy.
