Since the initial announcement ten months ago, we’ve been impatiently waiting for Star Trek Discovery to come home to TV but it looks like we’ll have a few more months of waiting before we see more strange new worlds.
With production scheduled to begin in September for a January release, executive producers Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman announced that they’d requested more time to perfect the series, a request CBS was happy to grant them.
“We aim to dream big and deliver, and that means making sure the demands of physical and post-production for a show that takes place entirely in space, and the need to meet an air date, don’t result in compromised quality.
Before heading into production, we evaluated these realities with our partners at CBS and they agreed: ‘Star Trek’ deserves the very best, and these extra few months will help us achieve a vision we can all be proud of.”
CBS’s David Stapf supported the decision to push back the show, adding “The series template and episodic scripts that Alex and Bryan have delivered are incredibly vivid and compelling,” said the President of CBS Television Studios. “They are building a new, very ambitious ‘Star Trek’ world for television, and everyone involved supports their vision for the best timing to bring to life what we all love on the page.”
With no confirmed cast as yet and details few and far between, the extra months to work on the shows format and post production are a welcome delay that will allow Fuller’s team to built a more streamlined and perfected vision of their new Trek series instead of racing against the clock.

Looking ahead to the next generation of Star Trek shows, Paramount and Secret Hideout have already began announcing new cast members to lead the Starfleet Academy series coming to the streaming platform in the near future. News of the show has already turned heads with notes that the new academy campus will be the largest seen on TV so far, being filmed in Pinewood';s largest stage in Canada, though in terms of what to fully expect from the young adult drama, things are largely being kept under Red Directive secrecy. Trapped between two black holes, the doorway to the Progenitor's legacy is wide open. Discovery's on guarding duty following Burnham chasing Moll inside while the Breen are recovering to take the technology for themselves before a rival faction finds them. With everything to fight for and the chase becoming a race against time, Discovery's crew enter their final house and a bit to end their five season journey.

All the pieces of the puzzle have been put together. Now with the end in sight, Burnham and her crew are on the edge of their greatest discovery. Yet there are still obstacles in the way with Moll and the Breen having taken possession of the combined Progenitor Artifact, the USS Discovery dead in the water and a potential all out conflict in the background. No wonder Rayner keeps pacing....
