[Q2&A] Orientation: The Officers Hub

In the past ten years we've tried to make a conscious effort to make things easier for members to manage and consult the admin side of Q2. Before the days of the internet, any guides, documents or forms were issued by request and a little harder to come by but now things tend to be found within our online membership portal that's constantly changing and growing based on feedback from across the fleet. Now we try to make things as easy add adaptable as possible, utilising our online home for as many member needs as we can with our key resource online being our Officers Hub. In it's current form the Officers Hub is a catch all place for fleet updates and membership administration, allowing you to make changes, updates or get information about Q2 and it's processes without having […]

As essential tool in the world of Starfleet, the tricorder is a multi-functional handheld instrument used to scan, analyse and record data to aid in a number of tasks or duties. Star Trek Picard Model Originally designed by artist and designer Wah Chang, the Tricorder was first introduced in Star Trek's debut episode The Man Trap and has been a staple of Starfleet tech ever since. The original was a boxy design with a small display and hidden compartments for full […]

[For The Uniform] The Next Gen Era ‘Working’ Uniform; 2360s-2370’s

Complimenting the formal styles worn in the era on starships such as the USS Enterprise-D, Starfleet introduced a 'Type B' working uniform in the mid-late 2360's. With a looser and more relaxed fit, the working uniform was a standardised jumpsuit with darker tones used on facilities such as Deep Space Nine and later selected by many captains as standard dress across the fleet. Type B uniforms were a simplistic design compared to the Type A's worn by the Enterprise crew. A minimalist style, the base was a black jumpsuit typically worn with an open collar. The four-panel design was straight forward and simple, with internal waistband bringing in the fit at the waist while 'action pleats' were styled into the back for more ease of movement. The shoulder panels, mimicking the style of the Type A, would be coded to […]

[Treknology] Warp Me! Inside the Engine Room.

For sixty years now the 'Space... the final frontier...' speech is engrained in the minds of half the planet. Even if they've only seen an SNL parody of Star Trek, they know what it means and where it came from. Within the world of Star Trek, there's no exploring the final frontier without one vital component – another piece of the Trek lexicon that's synonymous with it's universe – warp drive. Invented by Zephram Cochrane following the third world war, warp drive was a revolution of space flight. Scraping the pieces together in a battered rural town in Montana, Cochrane used an abandoned missile silo to launch his test ship, the Phoenix, turning a relic of war into a symbol of hope. Maybe not on purpose. His revolution was built for fame and glory. But the day he launched his […]

[Inside Trek] Behind the Viewscreen: Remembering Louise Fletcher

One of Deep Space Nine's biggest strengths was it's incredibly diverse cast of characters, from Starfleet heroes and freedom fighters, to Cardassian spies and the ever devious Dominion. The series was spoiled for the level of skill and talent involved. Especially when it came to one small recurring part who became one of the most unforgettable villians of the series brought to life by Academy Award–winner Louise Fletcher. Known to most of the world as Nurse Ratched, the tormentor of Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Fletcher was only the third woman to win an Academy Award for her cold and heartless performance. Gaining immense respect and stardom for her performance, by the time she arrived in the Star Trek Universe, Fletchers reputation for playing complex and calm authority figures made her a star before she even […]
