As Star Trek Picard’s production cycle continues, with filming on at least four episodes confirmed to be complete, CBS has announced through Deadline that the series has officially found it’s showrunner.
“Daring, lyrical, humane, whimsical, celebrated: words that describe both Jean-Luc Picard and the literary genius of Michael Chabon,” Alex Kurtzman, guardian of Forever in all things Trek at CBS told Deadline, “Despite a laundry list of accomplishments most writers only dream of, Michael shines with the heart and soul of a Trekkie who’s finally found his dream job. We’re so fortunate to have him at the helm as we explore this next chapter in the great captain’s life.”
Having made his mark in the literally world from Summerland to The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, Chabon entered the Star Trek world writing the Short Treks episode Calypso before being recruited to be an executive producer on Star Trek: Picard.
Produced by CBS out of Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout Productions – which is hosting the expanding Star Trek universe including CBS’s Trek base operations – Star Trek Picard was confirmed to have completed its second block of episodes as Hanelle Culpepper directed the first two and Jonathon Frakes announced on twitter that his third and fourth episodes were complete.
With many of his stories being adapted in Hollywood, as well as his involvement with high profile productions including Spider-Man 2, Chabon’s contributions to Star Trek have so far been well recieved on both sides of the camera. Though no one seems as pproud to be on board as he is!
“I come to work every day in a state of joy and awe at having been entrusted with the character and the world of Jean-Luc Picard,” Chabon told Deadline, “With this vibrant strand of the rich, intricate and complex tapestry that is Trek.”
Star Trek Picard is set to launch on CBS All Access in the United States, while those of us in the UK & Europe can expect to see the series on Amazon Prime.

Last week Starfleet Academy debuted and something odd happened. If you're a regular to any Trek news or discussion site, you noticed a spike. Even our usually sleepy Facebook profile went from a handful of likes to over 2,000, am good chunk of which got deleted.
