Despite Strange New Worlds getting a renewal announcement, this April it feels like a Universe of endings for Star Trek with Discovery's final season currently running on Paramount+ and Lower Decks announced to follow with it;s fifth and final season. Though there has been more positive news from across the Universe...
Back in the 90s we'd learn all about the cool, wacky lives of 20-something's through the adventures of a mysteriously close group of Friends; following the will they-won't they off Ross and Rachael, Joey's zany antics.... it was an ideal life filled with drama, joy, laughs and coffee!
Undoubtedly the undisputed champion of design longevity, the Miranda Class is one of the strongest holdovers from the 23rd century with a design surviving multiple upgrades and new integrations over the years. Initially designed for scientific missions, as well as being used for border patrol, the Miranda Class was first launched in the 2260's with a streamlined design mirroring the Constitution Class. A simplified saucer with underslung nacelles, the Miranda was also incredibly adaptable. The original variant included a rollbar on top of the rear of the extended saucer with a dual torpedo launcher.
Since it's launch as Star Trek's new flagship show in 2017, Star Trek Discovery has made an effort to reinvent itself year by year to tell new stories with new styles and themes. Each season being it's own new mission, the crew began as distrustful strangers under the command of a cold tactician to living in the far future trying to restore the Federation into the utopia of it's prime.
Infinity Diversity in Infinite Combinations is a core truth of SFC and our policies, however there is one universal truth that we've all seen in every corner of Star Trek fandom; we like trivia, information and just knowing stuff. Whether it's a conversation about uniforms that devolves into actual fabric colours in the 60's, the ever ongoing debate of how many decks the Defiant has or even just the basics of temporal dynamics leading to how many of Data's heads existed at a specific point of time, there's a reason the Star Trek Fact Files and even the Nitpickers Guide were popular additions to our collections back in the day.
Starfleet ships are designed for exploration. The Defiant is one of very few designed to fight. Introduced in the third season of Deep Space Nine, the prototype Defiant was conceptualised to give Sisko and his crew a weapon to fight against the Dominion with, as well as to open up the wider world of DS9 in something a little heftier than a runabout. Initially planned to ba a larger version of a runabout, producers decided to go big or go home. But, not too big....
