The General Board is a relatively new concept and the next evolution of Fleet Support. Mirroring the Captains Table, the General Board is constructed to help overall fleet operations and to contribute more voices and ideas to the clubs operation.
Based very loosely on the political ‘two house’ structure, and named after the real-world General Board within the US Navy in the first half of the 20th century, the starting point was to appoint two sets of voices within the fleet. The Captains represent their unit and their members need within that unit, each representing an area or group that makes up the whole.
To contrast and add to the Captains Table, Fleet Support – and now the expanded General Board – allows to give both opinions of fleet leadership and fleet membership equal standing and ensure we hear a larger range of views, opinions and gain a larger representation of the fleet on the ground in any future changes or decisions.
While Captains have an easier to understand role as leaders of the fleet, their focus is – and always should be – on their own groups which come with their own individual and unique structures. So while they’re voice and vote will be called on for major decisions, more regular ‘day to day’ support within running Q2 was warranted to ensure Captains could focus all their energies on their groups, while members looking to contribute and learn in a larger way had the opportunity to do so.
The General Board consists of members of the fleet from all corners and it’s positions open to all tenured members of any rank, role or background. While attached to their home unit, some with roles and responsibilities within that unit, members of the General Board take on a secondary role within the administration and online social structure of the fleet to help support operations and lend their voice and opinions alongside the Captains Table.
The combined ‘General Board’ comes in two branches. Fleet Support and the Home Fleet.
Fleet Support is a collection of operational and administrative roles that can change and vary over time. To ensure that the clubs structure isn’t dominated by just a small number of people, essential roles and resolvability have been divided up into singular roles to allow both a variation of approach and input, as well as ensure each ‘division’ gets the focus and attention it deserves.
Primarily based around Starbase Europa, the ‘Home Fleet’ is the social branch of Q2. Headed by the Starbase CO, Home fleet focuses on moderation, engagement and visibility of Q2 while also absorbing other roles such as Fleet Quartermaster ans highlighting contributing members as Fleet Experts.
Collectively the General Board is not only an essential part in ensuring the ‘day to day’ operation of Q2 by allowing more focused attention to the clubs individual needs, it also ensures that voices from all aspects of membership have a voice in how we operate. It also allows us to offer more space for members who want to contribute to Q2, but who maybe don’t feel comfortable in a Captains role, to take part in how we work and grow into the continuing next generations of the club.
It also allows flexibility to grow and change within itself with potential for roles to be added or removed based on the clubs needs at the time without disrupting operations.

[Q2&A] Celebrating Ten Years of the USS Churchill
Commissioned in February 2016 to oversee operations in Southern England and Wales, the USS Churchil is one of two online-centric units created by merging several localised units into one larger region. Throughout 2015-16, SFC was experiencing some fatigue and, to cut it short, needed a bit of a reboot. While there was activity and things were ticking along, the fleet as a whole was in a bit of a rough patch. After a huge fleet wide consultation, we went full Voyager and hit the reset button. Last week Starfleet Academy debuted and something odd happened. If you're a regular to any Trek news or discussion site, you noticed a spike. Even our usually sleepy Facebook profile went from a handful of likes to over 2,000, am good chunk of which got deleted. It wasn't a normal spike, certainly not normal for a debut show, not normal to be everywhere and – to be frank – not normal in terms of comments. It was a mix of disturbing and sad. Disturbing for the high amount of bigoted and sexist memes and commentary that seemed to mock murdered US citizens.
