Upper Decks: Lower Decks S5E08 Review

This is an odd episode that see's a lot going on, but also feels like nothing of note really happens. It's basically a day in the life of the command crew that makes the job seem more chaotic than the low level tasks of the Lower Deckers while making fun of the idea that only the important command crew have all the fun.

[Retro Review] Generations (1994)

Kirk's era my have started the phenomenon, but 1994 was a different era. Picard's Enterprise crew had just finished more than twice the amount of seasons of the original with one spin off finding it's feet and another in the pipeline. With the original crew having said their goodbyes in the Undiscovered country, the old was already out and the not quite as old were ready to take over the film branch of the Star Trek franchise. But not without a weird handover ceremony. [Ships OF The Line] Sovereign Class

In 1994 Captain Picard and his Next Generation crew said their final farewells to their Enterprise after one half of the ship exploded, and the other half smashed to the surface of Veridian III. Sadly for the Enterprise, it was the victim of not only Klingon meddling, but technical requirements; the Galaxy Class was a fine ship for their television adventures, but this was the movie world they'd beamed into so a new ship was needed to kick start this new high definition widescreen adventure. Enter the Sovereign Class; a massive departure from the creature comforts of it's predecessor. IT was leaner, meaner and built to impress from the moment we saw it on screen as the all-new Enterprise-E in 1996's First Contact.

Inside Trek: Jeri Taylor

Making her mark in the world of television, Taylor's pre-Trek career was a little more grounded. Through the 80's Taylor moved from writing to productio with classic drama's including Magnum PI, Blue Thunder and murder mystery series Quincy ME. Though she dabbled beyond the genre, including writing an episode of the Incredible Hulk, Taylor would move into the Star Trek universe on the recommendation of fellow Quincy writer, and Next Generation producer, Lee Sheldon, who had been tasked with expanding the themes of TNG and wanted to bring on board a versatile writer with experience beyond science fiction.
