[Retro Review] Futrures End: Voyager S8E8/9

When you're eighty years away from home and no chance of getting back to Earth before you can draw your pension, it's usually quite nice when you switch on your viewscreen and see that blue and green ball ahead of you. Though it's slightly disconcerting when you realise you're a few hundred years in the past, none of your friends or family's grandparents have even been born yet and you only got there moments after someone tells you that you're the harbinger of doom that's responsible for the end of all life. In the middle of reconviction top tennis tips from Tuvok, Janeways called to the bridge as a massive timey wimey event is slightly more important than her serve. Moments after encountering the temporal event, a small ship from the future arrives, guns akimbo, and after a brief skirmish […]

That Guy From That Thing: Rainn Wilson

Rising to fame through the US version off The Office, Rainn Wilson's ability to lean into the weird and quirky was a perfect fit for paper salesman and beet farmer Dwight Schrute. Taking on the role of the by the book suck up, originally portayed in the UK version by Mackenzie Crook, Wilson's take on the role was straight faced repressed anger in a beige suit. As time went on, and the US version deviated from the original scripts, Dwight Schrute became one of the most insane characters while still being one of the most popular for his wit, complete lack of charm and near psychotic loyalty to his associates. Having studied theatre and the arts at the University of Washington, Wilson came from a creative background and would often cite his father, author and painter Robert Wilson, for his […]

Who is Roger Korby?

During the second season of Strange New Worlds, Christine Chapel spends a big chunk of her time advancing her career with studies and opportunities. One of which gets her away from the Enterprise to spend time working with one of the Federations greatest minds. In season three, we come face to face with that mentor – Roger Korby. And with all their charm and the beginnings of a new story, the original series has already told us how this will end... Roger Korby coming home to the Enterprise was a surprise to Spock. It wasn't a surprise to anyone else. Not just for the first episode of seasons three emphasising that Chapel was pretty much done with the drama and ready to move on, but those who've seen the original series would know the legacy characters have a bit of […]

[Q2&A] Unit Operations: The USS Proxima

[Ships Of The Line] The NEw Orleans

One of the first multi purpose vessels built for the mid 24th century refresh of Starfleet, the New Orleans was the most adaptable model within the larger Galaxy family of starship design. With a trio of mission specific sensor pods, the ship was perfect for short term research missions as a primary objective whilst being able to swap out the pods for more specific purposes or even as defensive units. Smaller than the 'heads of the table' Galaxy and Nebula classes, the New Orleans was the more traditional design in the mid-scale models similar to the Cheyenne and Springfield Classes. Hosting a crew averaging 500, the ship was tightly packed with mixed crew quarters and multi-purpose research facilities to accommodate for the far-ranging tasks it would be assigned to, whether it was planetary defence or survey operations. With modernised nacelles […]
