One of the most common questions within SFC membership is all about command; to the point we compile a list of interested potential CO’s on application to the club. Though some can feel hesitant to begin when they’re uncertain of what region might benefit or fit the criteria for members to take command of a new start-up.

Over the past year we’ve discussed with members and heard feedback looking for new opportunities within our larger regional groups to find their own corner of the galaxy to splinter off and explore the final frontier of fandom together and focus on more meetups, events and general shenanigans in person without relying on an internet connection to enjoy the fun. Especially with the shifting culture away from social media following the pandemic which shan’t be named!

After a lot of thought and planning, we’ve decided to run a trial of guided unit start ups offering help and support every step of the way to help take the pressure off and give everyone a chance to enjoy their fleet – and fleet mates company! – to the fullest.

Of the key areas identified for interest in regular meetups and command enquiries has been within Wales, particularly South Wales, and the Greater London area. As we celebrate 60 years of Star Trek, we’re also looking to celebrate in helping bring new beginnings for our members (and prospective members!) starting with these two regions.

Focusing on the Greater London region, Project Faraday aims to revive the social aspect back to one of our most storied regions!

With a rising membership within South Wales, Project Bowen aims to give Welsh members of the fleet their own dedicated home within Q2!

Both Projects Bowen and Faraday are open to members within the stated region as wel;l as prospective members who may be on the fence about signing up or want to learn more about taking part within Quadrant 2.

Each Project will follow five phases from creation to launch, including…

Whether your interest is in leadership, organisation, or just wanting to be part of a new unit leading the way forward, Phase One is open for both units now. For further information, please feel free to get in touch!

Please note: Traditional Captains / New Unit applications will still be available an accepted throughout this time.

Q2&A Fleet Ops: Fleet Quartermaster

Managing supplies for the fleet, the Quartermaster's role at it's most basic is to manage supplies and goods for the fleet and offer exclusive items for members who are keen or interested in collecting unique items or displaying their part in our community. One of the core parts of Q2 means you can shape your membership however you want. When it comes to grabbing unique fleet items, it's not for everyone to have their cupboards filled with clutter or old patches or cards. Whereas a fair few members over the years stil have their original membership documents from decades ago. When there was a fee for membership, cost of supply was covered (well, barely!) whereas now membership is free, any goodies are opt-in and in terms of fleet-wide items, tend to be gauged and pre-ordered ahead of time. For the […]

[Q2&A] Fleet Development.

Every Star Trek fans dreams of being the captain of their own Starship and within Q2's network, everyone within the fleet has their chance. Sure, we can't give you a real starship, and you likely won't have to deal with long haul trips to the Hromi Cluster to pick up a gas sample, or deal with random attacks from the Tzenkethi. You don't even get a real chair. But you can be part of the leadership within the club and join the many who have helped shape our direction. Unit's are, and always will be, the core of SFC. It is within them that members can indulge in their shared interests for Star Trek and science fiction while enjoying the company of fellow fans and like minded people. At their best, units are a unique and welcoming social group that […]

Admirals Blog: Gamma Quarter 2403

To say it’s been a sad few weeks for Q2 would be an understatement. There have been fewer constants than Mark Mitchell within the past, Gods knows how many years. The rulebooks? Thats him. Academy? Thats all Mark. Sure, things got updated and edited over the years, but he’s been the backbone of the fleet for as long as I remember. Mainly as I remember him making my Academy exam when I joined the fleet on a whim. It’s because of people like Mark that I stayed. The fleet has always been the people. And he was one of the best people. I was honoured and humbled by the amount of people who went to say their goodbyes to him and while I felt a real sense of loss, it was also a day filled with joyful memories. When it […]

Mark Mitchell; 1969-2026

It's with great sadness we report that our Director of Operations, Mark Mitchell, has sadly passed away suddenly earlier this week. Mark was one of our longest serving members and a huge part of what helped shape what SFCQ2 is today. Having served in leadership as a CO, throughout fleet support and originating the role of Director of Administration, Mark's unyielding dedication to the club and his multiple contributions over the decades undoubtedly make him worthy of his Legend handle. From writing the entire base for our modern Academy to being vital in the fleet restructure, to offering support and advice to countless members to support leadership and direction, Mark's efforts serve, and will likely continue to serve, as the backbone of everything that makes Q2 with his primary goal always being to offer the best of everything and push […]

Starting this quarter, we're opening every new period within the fleet celebrating those who have made an impact and engaged in being a positive influence in their unit or in Q2 overall. The most obvious form of rewards comes from our naval-based rank structure. Utilising the same base rank structure seen on screen, SFC takes members through their journey as a Starfleet officer by giving members a chance to rise throughout the ranks from Ensign to Captain.
