As we wait impatiently for the launch of Strange New Worlds third season, and the resolution to the dramatic cliff-hanger that saw the Enterprise crew separated in a battle against the Gorn, Paramount has given the bittersweet news that the series end is in sight by announcing earlier this month that it’s fifth season would be it’s last.

In a joint statement, the executive producers – Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers – focused on the adventures to come whilst being thankful for the journey so far. “
“We’re deeply grateful to Paramount+ for the chance to complete our five-season mission, just as we envisioned it, alongside our extraordinary cast and crew. And to the passionate fans who’ve boldly joined us on this journey.”

Some time and a couple of Hollywood strikes ago, SNW’s third and fourth season was announced simultaneously alongside the announcements of Discovery’s surprising final season as well as Picard’s scheduled ending. The news for Strange New Worlds is a little disappointing, but seems to fit with the streaming market’s shorter stay compared to maximising output from the syndication model. While seasons three and four will have a full ten episode order, season five will finish the mission with a reduced six episodes.

While it’s disappointing to see another end to a popular show, the announcement gives the writers a chance to properly wrap up the series in it’s final season with some advanced warning so we can at least expect a satisfying and less rushed conclusion than it’s parent show, Discovery.

Season 3 is set for release on Paramount+ from July 17th with the first episode given an early screening at the Tribeca Film Festival leaning to mostly positive reviews!

As yet another Star Trek show comes to a close, and only one more series in active production at present, we’re eagerly awaiting same more positive news from the Star Trek Universe though with the delays and issues over the Paramount and Skydance merger, we might have to hold off until a deal is signed and external issues begin to be resolved.

THE LAST STARSHIP

As Star Trek’s prequel series see’s it’s end in sight, the legendary Starship Captain to be on their crew is back for IDW’s latest comics series. Having already resurrected Sisko for the Deefiant Series, ICW are looking at reviving James Kirk this September.

Focused on whats described as the Federations darkest hour, The Last Satarship is set during the time of the Burn; the galaxy-wide disaster revealed in Discovery;’s third season to have caused galaxy-wide warp core failures and brought a close to easy space travel and cost the lives of trillions. Mysteriously resurrected, the legendary James Kirk enters the wild west of what once was the Federation’s peaceful empire to bring hope and peace to a shattered world.

“Longtime Trek fans will have a deep and fascinating reading experience, to be sure – this is a pivotal moment in Trek history that’s never been even glimpsed before” co writer Jackson Lanzig commented in a statement ahead of the comics release, “But above all, The Last Starship is a dark and complex sci-fi you can hand to anyone. We’ve spent the last eight years celebrating all that Trek has ever been. Now, it’s time to rebuild it from scratch and discover all it can be.”

IDW’s The Last Starship launched this September during Star Trek’s anniversary month. The series is being written by Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing with art by Adrián Bonilla and colours by Heather Moore. Cover artist Francesco Francavilla features on the debut issue with collectable variants by Skyler Patridge and Michael Cho.

The Last Starship can be pre-ordered direct from IDW or your local comic store until August 18th ahead of the September 24th release.

Admirals Blog: Gamma Quarter 2403

To say it’s been a sad few weeks for Q2 would be an understatement. There have been fewer constants than Mark Mitchell within the past, Gods knows how many years. The rulebooks? Thats him. Academy? Thats all Mark. Sure, things got updated and edited over the years, but he’s been the backbone of the fleet for as long as I remember. Mainly as I remember him making my Academy exam when I joined the fleet on a whim. It’s because of people like Mark that I stayed. The fleet has always been the people. And he was one of the best people. I was honoured and humbled by the amount of people who went to say their goodbyes to him and while I felt a real sense of loss, it was also a day filled with joyful memories. When it […]

A Fistful of Down To Earth Adventures

Warping through the stars always searching for the next adventure, it's rare that Star Trek ever comes home to Earth. Through all the series, and highlighted in Enterprise, the third rock from our sun is kinda important in the grand scheme of things but our eyes are always far beyond the stars. So for no particular reason at all - certainly not any recent new series launching - we're taking a look at Trek's more Earthbound moments.... Homefront/Paradise Lost Deep Space Nine Season 4 The Founders said they were everywhere. Now we know they're on Earth. Recordings revealed a founder during the bombing of a Federation meeting on the home-world and Sisko is recalled. His knowledge and experience with the Dominion is vital to securing Earth against the inevitable war. But while the Dominion may be the enemy, they aren't […]

Some Scary Ship! The Griffin Incident; Strange New Worlds S4E02

Returning from a conference for future leaders of Starfleet, Spock and La'an (with Kirk hitching a ride) find a long-lost ship adrift. The USS Griffin's disappearance nine years prior had never been explained, becoming a bit of folklore within the fleet. Stum, bling upon it by chance, the trio board the ship hoping to find an answer to the mystery only to get more than they bargained for... Writers: Robbie Thompson Director: Axelle Carolyn   I'll preface this now by pointing out I love creepy sci fi settings.. The isolation of being trapped on a derelict ship with no escape and no one to call for help has always been something I've enjoyed from the obvious Event Horizon, even to old classics like The Thing. So I was excited for this one by the trailer alone and can't say I was disappointed! […]

Mark Mitchell; 1969-2026

It's with great sadness we report that our Director of Operations, Mark Mitchell, has sadly passed away suddenly earlier this week. Mark was one of our longest serving members and a huge part of what helped shape what SFCQ2 is today. Having served in leadership as a CO, throughout fleet support and originating the role of Director of Administration, Mark's unyielding dedication to the club and his multiple contributions over the decades undoubtedly make him worthy of his Legend handle. From writing the entire base for our modern Academy to being vital in the fleet restructure, to offering support and advice to countless members to support leadership and direction, Mark's efforts serve, and will likely continue to serve, as the backbone of everything that makes Q2 with his primary goal always being to offer the best of everything and push […]

Across The Universe And Back To Strange New Worlds!

Things have been a little guarded since the show was announced to be ending with a shortened 5th season, but it gave the production plenty of warning to wrap things up and bring an end to the original Captain and his crew! With some cast announcements for Season 5 seeing new additions including Thomas Jane as Leonard McCoy, as well as knowing it'll a shorter season to bring the show to a close, the fourth instalment feels a little bittersweet. But from recent hype from Paramount, we might just be in for a fun time. Season 4 Episode Titles Ahead of the series launch, the Star Trek social media team have been hard at work with some teases including short clips of each of the […]
