Returning to the role of former Terran Emperor Georgiou, Michelle Yeoh’s Discovery offshoot is finally coming after a long delayed development phase that’s seen it turn into a one off streaming event. After all the delay we finally have our first look ahead of the films launch after a teaser trailer was revealed as part of Star Trek’s ongoing presence at San Diego Comic Con.
Section 31 being front and centre has been a divisive topic. Introduced in Deep Space Nine as an organisation working in the shadows of Starfleet to secretly manipulate events in the Federations favour, the shadow organisation saw it’s early days introduced in Enterprise before appearing everywhere else.
Since then Section 31 has appeared in the final season of Picard, and show in Discovery as a bit of an open secret with Admiral Cornwell recruiting the captured Emperor into Section 31 to stand in for her deceased Prime Timeline counterpart. After some timeline shenanigans that saw Georgiou try to grow as a person and support Discovery’s trip to the future, the Emperor walked through the Guardian of Forever and is now catching up with Section 31 in the 24th century…
After being influenced to be a slightly nicer person thanks to the influence of the Prime Universe, Georgiou’s re-entry into Section 31 several decades after she left for the future with Discovery. The new trailer showcases some action and comedy without much in terms of plot or what to expect from the story itself.
Omari Hardwick, starring as a member of 31, described the film as “Guardians of the Galaxy on steroids” while noting during the panel that director Olatunde Osunsanmi was aiming to make a messy version of Star Trek.
Focusing on action and comedy, the teaser trailer seems more focused on a generalised cover for whats to come. We know that Georgiou is generally an antagonist who’s resentful of her more human side showing through and that the film will feature Kacey Rohl (Hannibal, White Lies) as a younger iteration of Enterprise-C Captain Rachel Garrett.
It’s hard to say exactly what to expect from the trailer, but with Craig Sweeney – who’s writing credits include The Code, 4400 and some of the better early episodes of Discovery – having written the feature version of the Section 31 pitch, we’re hoping there’s much more to the story than they want to reveal.
There’s not long to go to find out! While no solid date has been confirmed, Section 31 is in post production with an aim to release in the first half of 2025. Until then we have Strange New Worlds third season to come, as well as the final season of Lower Decks by the end of the year.

Looking ahead to the next generation of Star Trek shows, Paramount and Secret Hideout have already began announcing new cast members to lead the Starfleet Academy series coming to the streaming platform in the near future. News of the show has already turned heads with notes that the new academy campus will be the largest seen on TV so far, being filmed in Pinewood';s largest stage in Canada, though in terms of what to fully expect from the young adult drama, things are largely being kept under Red Directive secrecy. JJ Abrams Announces A Return To The Kelvin Timeline

Michelle Yeoh to Lead New Star Trek Series
