In the past ten years we’ve tried to make a conscious effort to make things easier for members to manage and consult the admin side of Q2. Before the days of the internet, any guides, documents or forms were issued by request and a little harder to come by but now things tend to be found within our online membership portal that’s constantly changing and growing based on feedback from across the fleet.
Now we try to make things as easy add adaptable as possible, utilising our online home for as many member needs as we can with our key resource online being our Officers Hub.
In it’s current form the Officers Hub is a catch all place for fleet updates and membership administration, allowing you to make changes, updates or get information about Q2 and it’s processes without having to ask fleet admin or your CO when a simple self serve option would make life much easier.
When signing up to Q2 all incoming memebrs are required to give a username that is manually set up during the membership application by fleet admin. That login is used for all members-only sections and one logging in, you’re automatically taken to the Officers Hub which is divided into several sections:
- Account: The landing page of the Hub and the first thing you'll see is a quick overview with account management options including updating information such as and address or location, quick links to access our membership handbook, contacts and most recent updates from fleet Admin.
- Academy: An optional induction course to Q2, the Academy is a quick run through of fleet protocol, information and more including more immersive Starfleet training and special events for those who like to dig a little deeper in the immersive side of Starfleet!
- Database: A collection of information and resources including detail on our rrank and rewards structure, available ship classes for new captains and more including media downloads and essential files such as the membership handbook and operations guides.
- Updates: Expanded from the landing page, all member-only admin, open positions and fleet updates, which can include Admirals Blogs to basic notifications, are archived for reference. Unlike the open Fleet Alert and Q2&A, the Hub alerts all focus on direct members updates and information.
There are other elements linked into the Hub, including the Support Tickets section where you can seek help direct from Q2 Fleet Support, or from other members who might get there faster, and is something that we’re constantly evolving based on user feedback.
We consider the hub constantly ‘Under Construction’ because of this and as such we’re continuing to add and amend elements on a regular basis. Our most recent update was to give Captains and Fleet Support an expanded landing screen with direct access to posts and quick Admin requests and our next wave of updates will focus on further amendments to the database including migrating a more informative Captains/Unit Application process as well as migrating more elements of the membership handbook into their own database entries so they can be accessed at any time through any device.

Inside Trek/Outside Trek: Colm Meaney
To the entire Star Trek Universe, Colm Meaney will forever be remembered as The Chief. Making his first appearance in The Next Generations pilot as a background character, Meaney soon found himself in the rotating guest cast for the Next Generation as the character O'Brien was fleshed out and used to bridge the next spin off when he became part of the core cast of Deep Space Nine. SFC has always structured it's internal reward and recognition system on the command structure of Starfleet on screen. Newbies are cadets. When they become full members, they become Ensigns. [Q2&A] Celebrating Ten Years of the USS Churchill
Commissioned in February 2016 to oversee operations in Southern England and Wales, the USS Churchil is one of two online-centric units created by merging several localised units into one larger region. Throughout 2015-16, SFC was experiencing some fatigue and, to cut it short, needed a bit of a reboot. While there was activity and things were ticking along, the fleet as a whole was in a bit of a rough patch. After a huge fleet wide consultation, we went full Voyager and hit the reset button. Last week Starfleet Academy debuted and something odd happened. If you're a regular to any Trek news or discussion site, you noticed a spike. Even our usually sleepy Facebook profile went from a handful of likes to over 2,000, am good chunk of which got deleted. It wasn't a normal spike, certainly not normal for a debut show, not normal to be everywhere and – to be frank – not normal in terms of comments. It was a mix of disturbing and sad. Disturbing for the high amount of bigoted and sexist memes and commentary that seemed to mock murdered US citizens.
