As Star Trek shifts to a new era as several shows have came to a close, October has offered a glance at whats to come in it’s future with new cast joining two upcoming shows and a final launch date for the Section 31 offshoot announced.

Section 31 Launches January 2025!

After years since first being teased, the new Section 31 project, we finally have a launch date! Originally planned as a series that was set to film following Discovery’s second season the project morphed into something much bigger over the years. With Strange New Worlds becoming the leading spin off from Discovery and planned star Michelle Yeoh having her schedule fully booked, Section 31 was re-written into a movie by Discovery and Elementary producer Craig Sweeney and completed filming earlier this year.

Focused on (partially) reformed Terran Emperor Georgiou, Section 31 will see Michelle Yeoh revive her character in the early 24th century putting together a new team under Section 31’s orders. The production has kept the details under wraps aside from the inclusion of Kacey Rohl taking on the role of a young Rachel Garrett; the officer that we learned had led the Enterprise-C into a fatal battle during Next Generation’s Yesterdays Enterprise.

Despite the secrecy, the spy-focused adventure now has a release date as director Olatunde Osunsanmi announced at New York Comic Con that it would make it’s international debut on January 24th on Paramount+.

Joining Yeoh and Rohl is Omari Hardwick as team commander Alok Zahar; Robert Kazinsky as Zeph; Sven Roygrok as ‘Fuzz’; Sam Richardson as Chameloid Quasi and Humberly Gonzalez as Melle. Watch the trailer in full.

Welcome Aboard!

Productions elsewhere in the Star Trek Universe also got some love at NYCC. With some time to go until we see the fallout from it’s season two cliffhanger, we got another peek at whats to come with Strange New Worlds (above) and another actor confirmed to join the cast next season.

From Guns Akimbo and What We Do In The Shadows, Rhys Darby is boarding the Enterprise in an undisclosed (for now!) role from the original series. An interesting addition alongside Cillian O’Sullivan who was previously announced to be revising Dr Richard Korby for the series.

It wasn’t the only piece of surprise casting as Starfleet Academy announced that Paramount had already commissioned a second season where they’ll welcome Orphan Black and She-Hulk star Tatiana Maslany!

New Starships Collection

Since the collapse of Eaglemoss/ Hero Collector, the remains of the collection have been sold of and shipped out. Though now Fanhome is here to full the void! Picking up the Starships collection with all new additions, Fanhome have already announced their launching line up!

Early models in the set include the USS Titan-A, a slightly larger version of the model marked as the Enterprise-G, and a much larger model of the Odyssey Class Enterprise F!

The line is set to include more from modern Trek including the Protostar, Dauntless, Voyager A and Obena! Find out more at Fanhome!

[For The Uniform] The Pioneers: Mid 22nd Century

Giving us a glimpse of Starfleet's formative years, Star Trek Enterprise embraced a world before colourful uniforms, flashy computer panels and creature comforts all around. Set a century before Captain Kirk's five year mission and focused on the first line of Starfleet ships built to take on the final frontier, the show focused on Starfleet's first steps into becoming what we all knew and loved.... Offering a dramatic shift in visual identity, Enterprise took a massive step back from the comfortable styles of the Next Generation, and even further away from the colour coded optimism of the original series. Instead of bold colours and hidden zips, designer Robert Blackman took inspiration from his own century, using Enterprise's timeline to bridge the style gap between Kirk's era and our own.Taking inspiration from NASA's flight suits, Starfleet's were idealised as the next […]

[Treknology] Beam Me Up!

Step into the transporter and with the touch of a few buttons and sliders you're whisked away to an alien landscape ready to explore. As synonymous to the Star Trek lore as phasers and tricorders, the transporter is one of the most vital tools within Starfleet, letting officers and crew travel instantaneously between environments without the need for time consuming shuttle trips or finding a starship-sized parking space to land in. Developed as a narrative tool, the transporter lets the story move along swiftly without breaks in the action and in a budget friendly manner. All you need to film is someone stepping into the large chamber, paste over some special effects, then pick up in another filming location. Aside from the creative benefits, it also showed the enhanced technological nature of the 23rd century. How it works is fairly […]

That Guy From That Thing: Harris Yulin

Among the many acclaimed guest appearances from all corners of the Star Trek Universe, there are only a small few who gave as deep a performance as Harris Yulin in his sole appearance in the franchise. Taking the spotlight as Aamin Marritza in Deep Space Nine's first season episode Duet, a Cardassian civilian who arrives at Deep Space Nine and raises a massive red flag for Kira when she learns he has a condition that links him to a brutal mining camp that many Bajorans suffered through during the occupation. Yulin is an actor who you may not recognise by name, but you always recognise. Having made his name in the New York theatre scene in the 60's, he quickly established himself as a serious dramatic talent with an incredible command of language, subtly and presence before he'd ever step […]

A Fistful of Justice

Although it's one of the worlds most legendary science fiction shows, Star Trek has always dabbled with format and genre's, all dressed up behind deep space adventures. Whether using the holodeck for a touch of fantasy, or diving into the horrors of war through Deep Space Nine's run, the variety of story telling never seems to fit one mould. But out of all the different tales told in the wonderful world of Starfleet, one that always promises to deliver is the court room drama. This month we're diving into the most captivating of Star Trek's courtroom drama's with a Fistful of Justice! AD ASTRA PER ASPERA Strange New Worlds, Season 2 One of the most modern examples of Strar Trek's court room drama saw Pike's own Number One, Una-Chin Reilly, under court martial for a serious breach of Starfleet regulation […]

Who is The Borg Queen?

Since their first appearance in 1989, the Borg had been an oddly mysterious and chilling antagonist for the Federation. Following their first encounter with the Enterprise-D, an inevitable event accelerated by Q meddling to challenge Picard, the Borg would swiftly make their mark with the first of many attacks on Earth, forcing Starfleet to adapt and change to the new and unexpected threat. A cold, faceless enemy, the Borg are cybernetic beings acting as one collective mind. Spreading through the galaxy trying to find perfection, they absorb anything of value they see into their collective, spreading like a virus and wiping out individuality to become a drone serving their eternal mission. In trying to assimilate the Federation into their collective, the hive created a new leader in Locutus, a human given a unique voice to speak for the Borg and […]

Starfleet Academy to end with with Season 2

Announced first by Variety, it's been announced that Starfleet Academy will end with Season 2. Having just launches in January with the first season finale receiving positive reactions, and it's second season now in post-production following the completion of filming, the announcement comes at an unsurprising time with Paramount undergoing new ownership under Skydance and more business shenanigans with further consolidation in the works with plans to absorb Warner Brothers into the mix. Set in the 32nd century and using Discovery's season 3 'Burn' storyline as a reset point, Starfleet Academy was focused on new original characters who had signed up to be the new stewards of Starfleet's future to rebuild the strength and vision of the Federation. Opening strong, Academy improved throughout it's first season and used it's setting to help strengthen the hopeful vision of the future and […]

New Cast Welcomes Aboard for Season 5 of Strange New Worlds

As the media hype is starting to ramp up for Academy's debut, Strange New Worlds is adding the finishing touches and along with cast such as Anson Mount saying goodbye to their Enterprise, we have some new names announced to have joined for the final season. Acting as a prequel to the original series, Strange New Worlds has helped to expand legacy characters having brought over Ethan Peck's younger and less refined version of Spock, the first career steps of Nyota Uhura, a completely revamped Christine Chapel and smaller parts – such as Dr M'BEnga, Samuel Kirk and T'Pring among others – being revived for the new era. Since then we've also spent some time with a young Jim Kirk, even seeing his first time in command last season, and Scotty's joined the lower decks of Engineering. As the show […]

Across The Universe This November!

As the year comes to an end, the new cycles are spinning up as Star Trek looks ahead towards new frontiers... UNDER CONSTRUCTION.... AGAIN... It's safe to say the biggest news of December had all eyes back on the film side of the Star Trek franchise again as Paramount seems to have found a new plan to revive Trek on the big screen. Which, sure, comes with a lot of scepticism. We've already had the Tarantino plan, the Kelvin revival announcement, the Hawley film that went into pre production before another announcement and probably more that we've forgotten about. But this one comes from the all new Paramount under Skydance, so lets be cautiously hopeful! According to Deadline the new pitch is coming from Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley who will write and direct a completely new take on […]
